About ACERID

Fighting emerging and re-emerging Infectious Diseases

The African Centre for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (ACERID) is a premier research and innovation hub dedicated to strengthening Africa’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats. Based at Makerere University School of Biosecurity, Biotechnology, and Laboratory Sciences, ACERID evolved from the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases Research Hub (TERID), which laid the foundation for cutting-edge research and capacity building in infectious disease management. Building on TERID’s achievements, ACERID expands its focus to include biosafety and biosecurity, disease surveillance, health systems strengthening, laboratory innovation, data analytics, and community engagement. We partner with global and regional institutions to advance scientific knowledge, support evidence-based policy, and build a resilient health ecosystem capable of responding to emerging health threats. Through strategic collaborations, innovative research, and capacity-building initiatives, ACERID is shaping Africa’s response to infectious disease challenges while ensuring sustainable health security for future generations. Join us in our mission to safeguard Africa’s health through science, innovation, and collaboration.
